UM Police to stop members of the community for good behavior.

This fall, the University of Miami Police Department is launching a new initiative aimed at increasing positive police interaction with the University community. The “Good-Behavior” Reward Card Distribution Pilot Program will essentially involve UM Police Officers stopping and rewarding members of the University community for “good behavior” with $5 gift cards to any Chartwells establishment on campus. “Good behavior” is constituted by following University rules, obeying laws, making good decisions and otherwise taking actions that set a good example and assist police. The initiative was made possible through a partnership between UM Auxiliary Services, Chartwells and the UM Police Department. The generosity UM Auxiliary Services and Chartwells have displayed shows a solid commitment to keeping our campus safe. Visit their websites at www.miami.edu/auxiliary-services. Following a community policing model of law enforcement, the UM Police department aims to differentiate itself from the majority of law enforcement agencies by taking a proactive and positive role in interacting with the community and preventing crime. The departmental goal is to have the community at large interacting with University police under positive circumstances more often than under negative circumstances. The “Good-Behavior” Reward Card Distribution Pilot Program is yet another medium through with the departmental goal can be realized.

Joke/Quote of the Month

Quote:

""People are like sticks of dynamite. The power is on the inside, but nothing happens until the fuse gets lit." ~ Mac Anderson

Joke: The Truckie

An old man was eating in a truck stop when three bikers walked in.

The first walked up to the old man, pushed his cigarette into the old man's pie and then took a seat at the counter. The second walked up to the old man, spit into the old man's milk and then he took a seat at the counter. The third walked up to the old man, turned over the old man's plate, and then he took a seat at the counter.

Without a word of protest, the old man quietly left the diner.

Shortly thereafter, one of the bikers said to the waitress, "Humph, not much of a man, was he?"

The waitress replied, "Not much of a truck driver either. He just backed his truck over three motorcycles."
