Esther Lamarre
Assistant Director – Alumni Career Programs


Esther is a Miami native and the newest addition to the Toppel staff. Esther earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies & Political Science from the University of Miami and a Master of Education in College Student Affairs Administration from the University of Georgia. Prior to returning to her alma mater, Esther worked to advance leadership education and development at the Illinois Leadership Center on the University of Illinois campus.

TOPPEL IS HIRING!
PEER ADVISORS
The Toppel Career Center is looking for an energetic, outgoing, and well-spoken undergraduate students to represent the Toppel Career Center as Peer Advisors for the Spring 2014 Semester. Peer Advisors play a critical role in representing Toppel across campus by serving as the liaison between UM students and the Toppel Career Center. This is a leadership position through the Toppel Career Center. Applicants must qualify for federal work study. Contact Megan Morini for an application and more details.


University of Rochester's McNair Summer Research Program
The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program at the University of Rochester provides participants with a mentored research experience, seminars and workshops on topics germane to the pursuit of the doctoral degree, and opportunities to meet with role models who have obtained the terminal degree. Program benefits include but are not limited to: room and board on the University of Rochester campus and a $3600 stipend for the summer. During the program, participants work with a faculty member on a research project in their major field, prepare for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), and complete a course entitled “The Culture of the Academy,” which includes a series of assignments that will assist in the graduate school application process. Attend the Career Expo to meet recruiters from a wide array of industries looking to connect with UMiami students and alumni. Career Expo attracts hundreds of companies from various industries including business, healthcare, communication, government, non-profits, science, technology and more! Gain exposure to a broad spectrum of career paths, learn about internships, full time positions and network with employers from various industries. UM CTSI & CCS: Software Carpentry Bootcamp
Monday, January 27 & Tuesday, January 28, @ 9am - 4:30pm at the Newman Alumni Center
Are you a graduate student in science, engineering, medicine or a related research-intensive discipline interested in learning basic programming concepts? This two-day workshop, jointly hosted by the Miami Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and the Center for Computational Science, will provide you with the skills and best practices needed to be productive in a small research team. Applications are now being accepted for the U.S. Department of State 2014 Fall Student Internship Program (unpaid). This program offers U.S. citizen undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to participate in 10-week, unpaid internships that provide intensive educational and professional experience within the environment of America’s principle foreign affairs agency. Participants gain first-hand, hands-on experience, and learn the realities of working in – and with – Foreign and Civil Service professionals who are at the forefront of America’s diplomatic efforts. Beinecke Scholarships for Graduate Study in Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences
Deadline for application: February 4, 2014
The Beinecke Scholarship Program aims to encourage and enable highly motivated students to pursue opportunities available to them and to be courageous in the selection of a graduated course of study. Each scholar receives $4,000 immediately prior to entering graduate school and an additional $30,000 while entering graduate school. There are no geographic restrictions on the use of the scholarship, and recipients are allowed to supplement the award with other scholarships and grants. Visit here for additional information.


Boren Scholarship for Study outside of Western Europe & Australia
Deadline for application: February 5, 2014
Boren scholarships provide up to $20,000 to US undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to US interests and underrepresented in study abroad. Boren scholars represent a variety of academic backgrounds, but are all interested in studying less commonly taught languages, including but not limited to Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili. Thomas Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship
Deadline for application: February 7, 2014
The Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program seeks to attract outstanding students who enroll in two-year master's degree programs in public policy, international affairs, public administration, or other academic fields. The Graduate Fellowship award of up to $40,000 annually can be applied towards actual expenses during the first and second years of graduate school. Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program
